Speed E-Bike Sales Accelerating in the Netherlands

DOETINCHEM, THE Netherlands –  Sales of speed class e-bikes are really taking off in the Netherlands this year. Growing public awareness of this new category of electric bicycles as well as a growing offering appears to have an accelerating effect on sales.

In the first four months of 2015 Sparta, Riese & Müller, Stromer and Gazelle altogether sold 1,036 speed e-bikes with vehicle registration;  a 250% increase compared with the same period in 2014. Accell Group’s Sparta generated the biggest sales growth. The company sold 583 units between January and April this year, an 377% increase. This makes Sparta market leader by far in this category.

Speed ebikes fall under different regulation than regular electric bikes in Europe. Moped rated helmets are thought to be required.
