NYC Mayor Cracks Down on E-Bike Riders

On Thursday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the city would begin cracking down on electric bikes. While e-bikes are legal to own in New York, riders can face harsh penalties of up to $500 when they are used on city streets. Starting next year, businesses that employ delivery riders with e-bikes will receive a summons and a $100 fine, which will double for each subsequent offense. De Blasio’s hope is that the newly enforced regulations will persuade businesses to go back to using regular bicycles or cars.
