Davenport-area resident Donna Cowan helps spawn Toronto street safety initiative

Conflicts between cars, bikes, and pedestrians in Toronto are not entirely the fault of the car drivers. Cowan thinks a large part of the problem is how bike riders use the road.

“I was expecting cars to be the bad guy, but the cars seemed to be behaving themselves because they had rules. It was the bikes – they’d go whizzing through stop lights or cutting through stop signs on side streets,” Cowan said. “Pedestrians would jut out in front of cyclists at streetcar stops. People would say things to me aggressively – even though E-bikes were allowed to be in bike lanes.”
