Lock your bike, but careful how you lock it to the rack. In some cases, a thief can remove a few bolts from the rack, and get your bike without defeating your lock.
Recent thefts in the Seattle area show that thieves disassemble the rack, cutting the bolts to separate part of the rack from the base. They may even take part of the rack with them, along with the bicycle. A witness to one theft said, “The dude rode up on his bike, cut off the rail, rode the stolen bike away. Then he returned on foot to retrieve his bike.”by
